Yokosuka City has announced an upcoming promotion running from April through to June, in celebration of the adaption of Shenmue to anime form, in collaboration with the Shenmue Project and IGN Japan. The promotion will feature:
- Updated Sacred Spot Guide Map
- Livestream event with Masaya Matsukaze, Yu Suzuki, Yu Kiyozono, Esra Krabbe (29 April, 2022 at 6pm JST)
- Exhibition of anime and game materials at certain shops associated with Shenmue
- A shopping promotion (postcard collectibles)
- An online gacha gacha with digital downloads
- A gacha gacha on-site in Yokosuka
The promotion will be centered around Dobuita Street in Yokosuka, and will be split into three phases:
Phase One: 23 April to 13 May, 2022
Phase Two: 14 May to 3 June, 2022
Phase Three: 4 June to 26 June. 2022
Shenmue "Sacred Spot" Guide Map: New Anime Version
The Shenmue "Sacred Spot" Guide Map has been revised with a new anime version that features locations that appear in the anime, and will be made available from 7 April at various points including:
- Brochure stands at Keikyu Yokosuka Chuo train station
- Yokosuka City Tourist Information Center (just outside Keikyu Yokosuka Chuo train station)
- Dobuita Station store (Dobuita Street)
- Yokosuka City Tourism Section (Yokosuka City Office)
- Participating stores
Livestream with Masaya Matsukaze, Yu Suzuki and Yu Kiyozono, MC: Esra Krabbe
A special livestream will be held on 29 April from 6pm JST featuring
- Masaya Matsukaze (voice of Ryo Hazuki, Japanese voicing)
- Yu Suzuki (executive producer, YS Net)
- Yu Kiyozono (producer, Telecom Animation Film) and
- Esra Krabbe (MC, IGN Japan)

Exhibition of Shenmue Materials
Eight stores on Dobuita Street that are associated with Shenmue will exhibit materials from the anime and the games, such as scenery artwork and background materials. The exhibited items will be changed with each phase of the promotion.
Participating stores:
- Dobuita Station (tourist center on Dobuita St)
- MIKASA Vol.2 (Sukajan jacket store)
- Taisho (embroidery store)
- HONEY BEE (restaurant on Route 16)
- Hanamatsu Yokosuka Chuo branch (flower shop near Dobuita St)
- KANMANIA Yokosuka (souvenirs & cafe)
- Kakita (military clothing)
- MIKASA Cafe (located near Dobuita St)
Shopping Promotion: 18 Total Postcard Designs
Receive a random postcard per 500 yen purchased at one of the above-listed stores (maximum of 4 postcards per purchase, while stocks last). There will be 6 designs made available per phase of the promotion, from a total of 18 designs. See the start of this post for the dates for each phase.
Online Gacha Gacha
For a limited time, an online gacha gacha will be available to play on your smartphone that will allow you to download digital stills of famous Shenmue scenes.
If you collect a complete set of all scenes, a greeting card will be posted out to you! [Update from Switch: completion will qualify you to enter a draw for a greeting card. One entry into the draw per person.]

On-site Gacha Gacha
There will also be an on-site gacha-gacha that can be played by holding up your NFC-enabled smartphone or alternatively scanning the QR code, at Dobuita Station (note, this is a store) on Dobuita Street. [Note from Switch: there is no limit on the number of turns when playing the on-site version]. Once you have collected the full set, you will receive an A2 poster.
While there will not be an on-site fan meet-up this time, there certainly looks to be plenty of activities for fans to enjoy not only in Yokosuka but from through online participation from around the world. Keep an eye on the blog for any news updates!
